Versailles receives almost 10 million visitors a year and the majority of those are during the summer months. You can buy tickets on site on the day, but you should expect long queues.
For this reason we highly recommend you book your tickets online, well in advance. You will have to specify the date and time of your visit. The time slot is for entrance to the palace.
There are a number of different ticket options from the all access pass (passport) with gardens, to tickets just for the fountains and gardens. Extra add-ons include guided tours, the equestrian shows and activities like the train or boats.
The Gardens are usually free, but on the days of the musical shows, an entrance ticket is required (€10) or free for under 5’s. Be sure to check when the musical shows are on as there is also a difference in price for the passport.
